Are You Working… or Just Staying Busy?

Hello flower friends. I want to really put a question out there because I know so many florists who are running around saying, I am so overworked. I am so tired. I. Literally am exhausted. But when I am looking at the actual like momentum and I'm asking questions, they're like, oh yeah, I know that it hasn't happened.

This hasn't happened. And I personally go through those same reflections sometimes going, am I really spending my time on the right thing? Because busy. Does not equal being productive. So you can spend eight hours working and still not move your business forward, but you could also spend two hours doing the right things and create actual momentum.

So like I said, busy does not equal productive, but I think busy often defines. Who what our definition of success, if you're busy, you're, you're successful because you're in demand. 📍 And busy is a sign of success, but productivity to me also can be not always equal to profitability.

So, and profitable definitely doesn't happen by accident. So. Let's talk about easy It is to feel like on for the day. Oh my God, I am a machine. I just crushed it today. So like you're checking your emails, you're organizing supplies, you're redoing Canva graphics, you're tweaking your website font.

You're scrolling for inspiration. You fell into the black hole of Instagram and looked at a bunch of other people's shit. You're cleaning your studio for the fifth times and you're making little tasks. Feel super. Important. Some of you could be exhausted by that, not because you're doing too much of the right work, but because you are doing too much of the wrong work.

If you are spending things on non needle movers, yes, they could be things that inevitably should be done, but if you are putting in. Time that is fake productivity. You guys endlessly tweaking. Your website isn't fixing your inquiry process. Spending 45 minutes choosing a fricking font for a post, no one will ever remember nor give a shit is not.

Productive scrolling Instagram and calling it research is not productive. Reorganizing your ribbon drawer isn't going to follow up with your leads. Talking about wanting better weddings, but never actually doing shit about it, like networking with planners, going to a networking event, sending an email, reaching out.

Putting a video out there on social media, Sam, looking for weddings, people listening to podcasts about business, but never implementing anything. Staying busy in admin so you can avoid sales. A lot of busy work feels really super safe because it doesn't require rejection, visibility, or courage. That is key because the real issue often isn't laziness.

It's avoidance. So the real work that we need to do is we need to shift into what actually moves your business. So the real work in your floral business often looks like following up on inquiries. If you listen to Monday's episode I talked about, that is one of the first things that I would do if I needed to book eight weddings as soon as possible.

Raising your prices. Improving your proposals, posting your face, and your sweet voice on social media, networking with planners and venues asking for the sale, tightening your systems, fixing your client experience. You can have the cutest social media in the world, but if your client experience sucks. It, you are not going to get the payoff.

Creating offers that actually sell, having a streamlined process to make your life easier. Actually looking at data and stopping the whole feeling based decision-making, and stepping into data-driven decisions. Looking honestly at what is working in your business and what isn't. The real work is usually the thing we keep fucking avoiding because it would actually change something.

Okay, so the next thing I want you to do is audit yourself. And I've talked about auditing yourself. Auditing yourself is one of the most introspective things that you can do that actually will cause growth. So ask yourself, what am I doing every week that feels productive, but doesn't actually grow my business?

What am I avoiding? Because it, it feels uncomfortable, but I, it, it keeps feeling uncomfortable. I'm never moving forward. What is that thing? You just keep unavoiding and it feels so uncomfortable. You just can't. A lot of times that's actually like showing your face in the business. That's reaching out to a planner because you're scared of being rejected.

And then, am I spending more time on what my business looks like, how grable it is than actually sales? Am I creating more than I am converting? Am I waiting to feel ready instead of just moving forward? Oh, you know, I, and I have people a lot of times say this about when they've met with me for, or chatted with me.

Yeah, I've been thinking about coaching with you, but I'm just waiting until, and then they'll give me like 10 excuses of what they're waiting till. And I'm here to tell you guys, if you are stuck in your business is not accomplishing. What you want it to. That very thing is what is holding you back. You are waiting, you will keep fucking waiting.

Waiting is never ending. If that is the cycle that you want to live in, and if you want someone that is going to call you on your shit to really. Start drawing out your patterns. Half of the things that we're doing in our life and we're doing in our business that are making us successful or not successful are the patterns and the habits that we have.

So if your business feels stuck, there is a great chance that you are overworking in all the wrong places. So. Let's talk about the work that actually grow grows. You usually feels uncomfortable, but is really necessary. This is a complete mind shift of your mindset of like your foundation and.

Real growth often feels really exposing. You feel really vulnerable, like sales feels vulnerable. Visibility being seen feels vulnerable. Following up can feel awkward and you can be afraid of rejection. Raising your prices can feel scary. Saying no can feel scary, but those are often the exact things that are going to create the growth that you need to make your business successful and to have you be in alignment with who you want to be.

As a business owner, if you keep waiting to make moves in your business until, well, until I hit X amount of weddings, then I'll start taking weddings that I really want, or then I'm gonna increase my prices or then, and then, and then those things that build a business are rarely things that make us feel comfortable in the moment.

All right, now let's do some homework. Give yourself some thought if I want to make two lists today. List one are things that are just putting in time and list two is things that actually would move my business forward. So this week I want you to spend more time in list two. You might feel like you need to redo your font, but I'm telling you, following up with a planner or following up with a previous lead is going to be more impactful.

If all you do this week was follow up with leads, post one video of your sweet face talking about you and why they wanna be you to be their florist, you reach out to three planners. I guarantee that you would do more in your business than reorganizing your studio again of making some, arrangement that was, creatively inspiring and I was just so in love with it, and I just love these tulips that is all fine and dandy, but that is not going to convert someone.

Converting. Somebody is like, hi, my name is Jen and I'm with Green Goddess Floral. I'm a wedding and event florist that specializes in lush garden style designs. I actually also have a flower farm, so locally grown flowers are super important and are so inspiring. I specialize in color and 90% of the weddings that I do are color.

But if you have a, a. Green and white wedding. I absolutely love those as well. It's just I really love all things color. And then I have some availability in 2026, and I would love to connect to be a part of your special day because I think weddings are so important, and I take being your florist so seriously and making sure that every detail is perfect.

I would love for you to reach out to me. Please send me a DM or reach out on my Contact us page on my website, and like that alone is going to move things so much farther. Okay? Now, if you want to actually make momentum, and if you are a podcast listener, you might be sick of me talking about this, but there is, I am in a mastermind.

I dream differently. I dream bigger. And you guys, it's, we're three months into the year and I have already made. 30% of my vision board happen.

Thank you so much for listening. Flower friends, you can change your 2026 around. I want you to step back. Stop focusing on things that feel busy and start focusing on the things that are actually gonna move the needle.

I know that big things are waiting for you. If you want to dream bigger, if you want a business that is in alignment with everything, I mean, I get to get my kids off the bus. If my kids are sick, I get to snuggle them. I have announcement. I have five new bottle baby mini Highlander cows. I have to bottle feed three times a day or three times a day right now, and I have a little baby lamb that's a week and a half old that I'm bottle feeding.

I could not do this while working a day job. I could not live my dream life as I bought fucking peacocks this weekend. You guys, like I have dreamed, I actually, I'm not usually a very emotional person, but when I was putting these peacocks that I had dreamed about my whole life in the back of our trailer.

I looked at my husband and I just said, I loved you so much because my life that I have dreamed about is becoming a reality. And I believe that very thing can be true for anybody if you design a business that supports that. And that's what I wanna help you do. I want you to design a business that you are so in love with.

I want you to design a life that you are so in love with. And I think often we suffer in silence. We think that that is not possible. Actually, I went to a sourdough class last night. I'm living my homestead dreams, you guys. I went to a sourdough class and I asked a ton of questions. That shit is so confusing.

You guys does anybody else do sourdough? What is going on here? I didn't know that I was gonna have to get a degree in rocket science to read this manual of how to make this shit. So I'm there and I'm with a new friend who is a local friend, who is a mom of a friend that my son goes to school with.

And I'm trying to make friends that are closer in proximity and just trying to make more friends because I wanna cultivate friendships in 2026. Because last year it was really hard to, with all of the changes and, the, she feels so defeated and so like her late, she's pregnant, her life has changed so much and she's just got all these things on her shoulder.

And I just looked at her and was like. You are not going to get anything positive to happen if you don't believe it's gonna happen. I believe in my success and my success is inevitable. That actually used to be something that I said all the time. My success is inevitable, and I truly believe that that is possible for anybody with the right mindset, the right coach, the right tools in their toolbox to move things forward.

The. That kind of fire, like I am so fired up about the coaching bus business, helping people. I'm so fired up about the weddings that I have. I'm so fired up about the farm and growing flowers and bottle feeding baby calves. Your life that you have been dreaming about is within reach. And I truly believe that there are only a few chess moves on your board to get there.

So check out floral ceo.com/mastermind, or I do one-on-one coaching and would love to dive into you and your business and really soak in everything and help you move towards your big dreams and goals. Thank you so much for listening, flower Friend. I hope you are having an amazing start to spring as it is April 1st when this episode is airing and spring is in the air, which is all good things, especially when you grow flowers.

So have a great day, flower friends.
