Scrolling Jealousy? What to Do When You Feel Behind on Instagram

  📍

Hello flower friends on this week's mini episode we are gonna talk about are, have you been on Instagram and looking at all these other florists and going, how are they getting all these jobs? How are they booked and I'm not booked, and all these fraudy feelings are sinking in and you're starting to feel like you don't know what you're doing and you start to feel like.

You're a bad business owner and like just all the things creep in. So here's some things for one to really pay attention to when you see someone who has the illusion of success and that illusion looks sexy and that looks like you wanna be them. So the first thing that I look at is, okay. I am seeing a fraction of what is really going on.

So if they are posting this big event and they're like, you know, look at all this stuff that we're doing. You know, I really think of like how often, how much diversity is in their portfolio online. I mean, this is kind of like the, the spiral a lot of people go through and I'm trying to rationalize that spiral.

And then I wonder if they're even making money, because I have, actually, I've had a couple florists, especially in my market, that all of a sudden, especially with COVID, the dates switched and. You know, of course those people were in love with that vision and love with that concept, and that florist was then unavailable.

So they have, you know, shared the proposal because that's what they want duplicated. And I've looked at what they are charging and I've gone, holy crap, they're not making any money. So I don't wanna do things that I'm not making money. I don't know, like that just doesn't make sense at this point.

Realistically at any point in anybody's career, but I get it that it happens. So stepping back and going, okay, are they actually even making money is one thing that I kind of think through because I know a lot of these florists that when you look at, they're their online game, everything I know because I've come across a bit of theirs or I've competed with them on.

I, I pretty much know if that florist is making money or not. I, not only just by my own personal, but just like market kind of chatter. It's not that we're gossiping, but people talk. And so I just step back and go, is that person really even making money? And if they're not, like, that's sad. And so then I just really think, okay.

I think that that person's work is beautiful, but I inevitably step back and say, but so is mine. And my work is something that I've worked really hard to perfect. I work really hard on my events. I do beautiful work, and so then I just step back and go, all of these feelings are inevitably coming up because I'm not feeling validated because.

I'm not, my inbox isn't blowing up, but realistically theirs isn't probably either. And it is time to really just make sure that I'm delivering on the strategy that I know that works. And that's the next thing that I want to talk about. So after you've looked at somebody and all the fraud feelings have happened, and really just ask some questions like, is that person really who you wanna be?

Because I know a lot of these florists, there's a couple of them that are really, really busy, um, from what it looks like on Instagram. And I just look, okay, Instagram is a part of the thing. And then I don't know if they're actually making money or I do know they're actually not really making money, that they're undercharging in this market and kind of doing a disservice to this market.

And then. There's things about their work that maybe are not my speed. And so I, I'm like, I don't wanna be that person. Here's the person that I wanna be. And that person I know attracts business is a magnet for more. And once you've stepped back and looked at being a magnet for more business, that's when things kind of start to come together with, you know, this plan.

This plan of what has booked you clients in the past works, and if you don't know the plan or you're not executing your plan and you need more support, you need to join the floral CEO Mastermind because that accountability is a game changer. That, I guess just even community of having people to ask questions and like, Hey, how are your guys' bookings?

Like these are discussions that we have because everybody's in the thick of it. Then what is your plan? So if you don't have a plan, come and I would love to invite you into the group. Go to the floral ceo, um, tab on my website, otherwise the floral hustle.com forward slash mastermind. And you know that if you're consistently networking.

That that will end. You know that if you are, you know, responding within 24 hours with a really thoughtful, you know, if you do a beautiful proposal, you know, if you do all of these different things that when you do that magic, like it all comes together, but when you fall off the wagon and you're not executing the plan, all of the things start to kind of fall apart.

Usually things start to fall apart more. So I'll have people that are like, I'm not booking anything. And I look at their Instagram and they haven't posted in a month, or, you know, I am, I'm not getting any business. But then they tell me that they have all these proposals to do and I ask them how long said proposals hasn't been done and it's been weeks, or they're getting inundated for with emails and they don't even have time to respond.

Well, how can a client fucking book you if you don't have time to even talk to them? People have expectations to be communicated with in a timely fashion, and so if that isn't able to happen, you need a different strategy. You need a way to make sure that you are getting timely communication that stands out, that's impactful, that makes you look like the fricking rockstar that you are in business and makes them go, I want this person.

Yeah, like I want, I wanna choose them because they have all of these exceptional qualities, but if you're slow as hell to get to respond to them, if you're slow as hell to get their proposal to them or you, you don't do it for weeks on, I mean, I don't know about you, but whenever I wanna buy something big, like I wanna figure it out as soon as possible because there's another shiny thing that they could see on Instagram.

You need to be timely within your communication. You need to be really doing things that make you stand out. So if bookings are slow, I would love for you to go in and audit. If you're looking at somebody else and you're like, all the feelings are soaking in, what is their, what do you think their process is?

What do you think that they're doing to set themself apart? Are they consistently posting on social? Are you doing the things that you know, can that work consistently do an audit of your whole communication flow? And are you actually following what you thought you were doing? Oh shit, I didn't respond to this site lead.

Oh shit, I didn't, you know, respond within three days like my average. Uh, response rate is 24 hours, or my average response date rate is three days. Like, that's not effective communication that somebody's gonna be lining up to book you. So you need to deliver an experience that shows that you are exceptional because you know you are, you know, you are so exceptional.

So go out, do some auditing, do some reflecting. Think objectively when you are looking at someone else through rose colored glasses that our Instagram fundamentally is set up to deliver and think, how can I be just as this good? How can I be better? What would make this better? What could I do to bring myself to the next level?

And I mean, that could be a million things, but. Thank you so much for listening, flower Friend. I hope that if it, this is a slow season that use, use this time to really think about how you can be the best version of yourself and how you can bring your business to the next level. And if you need help with that, I'm inviting you into the floral CEO Mastermind.
