What’s Holding You Back: The Keys to Floral Business Success
📍
Hello flower friends, this is Jen and you are listening to the floral hustle podcast on this week's episode. I want to talk about what's holding you back from success, maybe not only in your business, but in your life. I had a couple coaching calls today and you know, there, there's kind of a constant theme that people are going through when they're really not hitting their dreams.
And I want to kind of go through the progression of potentially where you might being stuck. Getting stuck in this process or where, like, there could be one of the screws loose in your big elaborate plan of floral world domination or of having this life first business or of having this, you know, whatever it is, this big vision and those, those pieces to that vision, kind of fall in place with, you know, Of course, consistency, um, which is one thing that I think is holding a lot of people back, is that they aren't consistent at anything.
You're, you're thinking all these big things should be happening, but you don't continuously execute or work towards making those things happen. And it's hard to have success without actually trying. But it is crazy that most people feel like success should be theirs already, even though they're not doing those things.
And I had that for so long that I was, thinking like, God, my business should be, here making this amount of money. I should be doing these kinds of weddings. But like then when I stepped back and really audited, Like what I was actually doing to work towards that goal, and when I do that with clients, it's, it's often.
Enlightening to them to go. Well, what am I really doing to make this happen? Or I and I'm not saying that that, you know, this is happening with anyone specifically, but there is a term in the self development thing called action faking. And so action faking is when. You buy the course, but don't do it, or you say you're going to do something, and then you don't do it.
On the first of the year, so many people are, like, thinking they're going to be, like, 2024 is going to be the year that I'm going to blow shit up, and I'm going to do all these big things with my life. But then January 30th, they're already not going to the gym, they're already not doing this, they're already not doing that.
Because, like, Realistically, maybe they entered it with the wrong intentions, but they probably didn't have a plan. They didn't have a support system. They didn't have all these things to help make this actually work. So, the first part of where I see things fall apart is really actually having a vision.
When you get super specific about what you want to happen you can see it. That vision becomes in your head, you can feel that vision. So part of my vision was, um, and I actually, I was telling a coaching client this today. I know when I was six months pregnant and I was going through all these things with my daughter's father going batshit crazy.
When I had just lost my mother, when I was almost 40 and having a baby. And I was in this job that I absolutely love the owner, but hated the CEO. Just thought he was a complete tool. I didn't love going to work like I had for 10 years. Like, all of these things had shifted and then I really asked myself, like, what would I love this to look like?
So that's part of your vision. Like, what do you want your life to look like? What do you want your business to look like? And often, it's funny because in the floral industry, this is what I often hear, I want to be a luxury. I want to be making X. I want to be making this money. I want to be, having this.
I want to have a booty that I can bounce a quarter off of. I don't know, whatever it is that's your vision. But! Often, I don't think people think with that vision or understand what that vision truly means. So, my vision has never been to do a 40, 000 or 50, 000 event like luxury floral designers do.
And there are all of these florists, floral educators, and many who I really love and respect. Selling the Kool Aid and trying to get everybody to drink the cyanide Kool Aid that, because I'm saying cyanide Kool Aid because I don't know if most florists understand what it is to be a luxury floral designer.
It means you potentially could be having to hire a whole team. It could mean that your current space doesn't support all of those people that would need to work for you to pull off this event. It could mean like you taking on and renting space. It could mean you being this client's bitch for a while, or you doing things that aren't in alignment with the designs that you want to do.
I mean, it could mean so many different things. My example of like what it would be to potentially be like a luxury hotel florist. I know a florist that has a very large account. and they have to staff that. They have to be kind of at their beck and call if there's ever an issue with it. They are having to come up with unique designs on a weekly basis that are basically like creating a installation in the same space every single week.
They have to have inventory of all of these unique pedestals, vases. That is a very big scope project. They have a very good revenue stream with that, but then they're taking on staffing. Taking on somebody who sounds like a high maintenance asshole, in my opinion, I would rather, but this is because this is my vision, I would much rather work with, if I'm going to, you know, work with hotels.
I would much rather work with a hotel that I have a 2, 000 account weekly or 1, 000 account weekly that I am not reinventing some crazy installation every week. Maybe we're doing a holiday installation. Maybe we're doing something special for Valentine's Day, but I'm doing something beautiful in their foyer and maybe three to four other areas every week.
Maybe if, if the space is so inspiring that when I go in. I have, and this happens, and this is why sometimes I love going on site and meeting with a client. I could, like, think of a million different things to do in that space. I would have to really be excited to want to take that on. Because I also know the brain space that's going to take.
I also know the, the resources that's going to take. I also know my other commitments in life. I also know the threshold of how much, and I work hard. But I know the threshold of what I, I have capacity to do. I would much rather do a 20, 000 to 25, 000 wedding than do a 50, 000. 50, 000 wedding comes with 50, 000 wedding complications that at this point in my space.
Don't sound fun for me to take on, because I want to be able to go to CrossFit three or four times this week. I want to go and be able to get my kiddos off the bus. I want to go and be able to coach my mastermind girls. I want to be able to coach my gir My like girls and one guy, which is amazing and my floral CEO accelerator group coaching program right now.
I want to be able to answer their emails. I want to be able to answer clients. I don't want to have a team of people like I have a couple consistent people that I love having. Work for me, but that's it. I don't want to have a huge staff like that doesn't speak to me and that I know is what being Luxury is going to take and I just like that doesn't feel good to me But this is everybody's vision They have this grandiose vision of like because everybody is selling the Kool Aid that that's what they have You are completely entitled to have your own vision, but you need to at least start with Dreaming about it and understanding what that will feel like.
And I want it to feel amazing for you. Like you shouldn't build a business that doesn't feel fucking awesome. When you're doing your Sunday night prep for your week because that business is not going to be sustainable and You're going to start resenting parts of your business. You're going to start shutting down you're potentially going to start having maybe mental health issues or start Giving up on other aspects of your life because you're so bogged down That you were building this life that you're absolutely not in love with and I don't want that for you I want you to be like, I have this business and that's me right now.
When I was six, seven months pregnant, I was about to leave. Like I was like, I want to get my kids off the bus. I want, if my kids are sick, for me to be able to snuggle them at home. I want to, like, my health goals have definitely realigned, but I wanted all of these personal things. I wanted to be able to take a nap in the afternoon if it was calling me.
I wanted flexibility. I wanted just time to be able, like, at that point, I was bringing my daughter to therapy, like, three or four times a week. I wanted to be able to do that. I wanted to be able to actually afford, if I wanted, help with the kids. So, like, what would that look like? Everything was this vision, and I started dreaming about this vision, and I knew, based on my experience, what that had.
So then, I got clarity. So that clarity is like your next step okay, if I did this what would this mean for my family? What would this mean for me? Does this feel really good? What would I need to do? What would my SMART goals be to pull off this vision? Would I need help? Would I need, what resources would I need?
What education would I need? Like, I see the impact that education and coaching Has had on myself and I know you think I'm like, probably beating a dead horse, but I started making more money and serious money in my business when I started spending money on myself, my biggest investment in my life. Other than like, my children and the time I commit to my children is my brain and.
All of that knowledge, all of that work that I've done has helped me get to here and it helped me stay stuck. And not doing it for so long that I had a business that wasn't making the money that it should have should I was doing designs that weren't inspiring, inspiring, they weren't speaking to me, I had clients that I didn't absolutely love, like all those things.
And so if you're if you think right now and do an inventory, are you doing things that like aren't really in alignment with this vision? Are they sucking the life out of you? Cause that's, it was for me, like, I was like, I, I just, I don't even know if I want to do this anymore, if it's going to feel this way.
And like, I just drew this line in the sand, but like, that catalyst was me getting around people that it would look better. Everything looked brighter. Everything looked like it felt better. Every their businesses were inspiring to me. They're. The kind of money and revenue that they had coming in was inspiring to me.
The work they were doing was inspiring to me. And like, I had to be around those people talking about the shortcuts, talking about like ways to build this. And since then, I mean, I have invested in courses and, um, masterminds in group coaching programs in masterclasses in. In 1 on 1 coaching I know, like, the catalyst for the floral hustle was, I got on an airplane and flew down to Arizona and did a VIP day with 1 of, like a number one podcaster that was also like a life and lifestyle coach, a mom kind of minimalism coach, and was talking about like simplifying your life so that it feels good. Your business should feel good. Like things, just like taking this totally different approach from strategy and strategy.
Yeah. You know, that business has to be hard into like, what would it look like to feel really fucking good? And I left that day saying, and, and to me, whenever I say something out loud, it's going to happen. When I say I'm going to do something, I do it. And I said that day I'm going to start my podcast within 45 days, I'm going to launch my floral coaching business formally, because I had like green goddess teaches and so I'm doing it, but like that took me investing and telling some, Somebody telling me that they believed in me telling me that like so much more was possible and just on and on so like that was the catalyst for change me investing in myself, me getting clarity of what other people are doing.
And then the next step was me getting the confidence. I have always had mad crazy confidence. Like, I have always been a confident person. I am an extrovert. I sold cars for seven years. I was the director of sales for a automotive advertising platform. So I was the one going into the meetings in front of a huge dealer group, like pitching them a hundred thousand dollars.
And like, like I got, I'm just saying to y'all, I got lady balls and like people I coach, I give that energy, like that energy from me. Like, I want to just push that energy and that momentum into you because I know that what that energy and that confidence can do. Confidence equals cash was an episode that I did.
And it is so true. Confidence will make you money because who doesn't want to be around like somebody that's magnetic. That. That just like when you feel you're excited to be around, like their aura feels good, like in your business, people want to be around that because there's too many dumpy ass people running around that suck your energy out, make you feel like shit, could be your mother in law, could be like the male person who looks like their goldfish died every day.
There is so much negative energy, but when there's positive, it's just like, OMG, I want to be around that more. And so that is the energy I bring as a coach that I want to get soaked up. And I want that energy that like, everything is figureoutable. And if for some reason you haven't been doing something, one of my coaching clients, like did this really beautiful review and I absolutely love this human.
She's like such a beautiful human being in general, but she was like Jenny gets to the root cause, doesn't offer these band aid solutions of, fast track marketing solutions. Like, she's getting to the root of what is going on inside and then helping kind of push and guide me to, like, fixing that.
And then I have all the strategy to have you grow your business because I have done it. I know how to grow a floral business. I know how to really grow as a wedding and event florist. I've worked in a retail shop. I've had corporate accounts. I've done so many things. But I am drilled in because I want to make money.
I want to do something that's fun and inspiring. And to me right now, that's weddings. And have I expanded? I niched down. I am a total boss at cultural weddings. I'm, in the process of building my silk flower rental business. But like, I know how to build a profitable wedding flower business. That feels good.
But that took me investing. That took me being around people who were thinking bigger than me. That took me taking a really hard look in the mirror and say, I am sick and tired of being that version of myself, and I am no longer available for that. I'm available to make really impactful money. I'm available to have everything feel really, really good.
And I hope that same thing for you. I started getting the skill set. I started getting the mindset that it took to really push my business forward. And those are the tools that I provide you. Like, I have a plethora of tools. I have the Floral CEO Mastermind, which right now we have one spot available that just opened up this month.
I have three workshops coming up that if you want to check them out, these are going to be so impactful. TheFloralHustle. com forward slash rockstar. These workshops get you hands on and there's three types. The first workshop is called business bouquets and branding. Like, you're going to come here and help establish and build your brand from a photo perspective.
We have an opportunity for you to get a branding video. Doing your elevator pitch explaining who you are and what you can do for somebody so that you can take this amazing video by Tim Thornburg films and embed that in your website. Uh, you're going to get these amazing branding photos to share on social media.
You're going to make a breathtaking caterpillar in. table installation. You're going to make two breathtaking bouquets to get photographed with, and we're going to talk about business. Like, you bring all your questions here, and I am here to answer them. Then our second workshop is our installation Rockstar Intensive, and in that workshop we are going to dive into five different installations, and it is going to be so fun.
It's the Pantone color of the year, which is going to be amazing. Then, the third workshop, and this is my first time doing this, is going to be a Cultural Wedding Rockstar Workshop. In this workshop, you are going to learn how to do a mandap, which is a Hindu ceremony structure, a backdrop, which cultural weddings love backdrops so they can sit and be cute on stage, and we're going to learn how to make, um, Hindu ceremony garlands.
You're going to get, um, Such an experience learning about cultural weddings from my friend, Noor. You're gonna learn so much about structures. It's gonna be like a game changer and it is such a value comparatively to other workshops out there that like it is a no brainer. You fly here to Minneapolis, you hang out with me.
It is a small group of up to 15 people. It is such a game changer, the confidence you will leave with, the skills that you will leave with, the tools that you will leave with, um, the collateral you will leave with because you get full, like, a styled shoot video to share on social, you get, um, behind the scenes photo galleries, I mean, it is amazing.
So, education is going to change you. It has changed me and I just, I want it to be affordable and I want it to be impactful because it's never helpful for you to buy the course and never do it. So, I also do one on one. I do the mastermind. There are so many things that I would love to help you with, but you need to want things to change.
So getting that education is such a huge component. Then from there, it's developing a strategy, like how are you actually going to make these things happen? Because it's really easy to say that you want to do all these things and then just have these big things say launch silk flower business, but then that just sits on your to do list.
What do you need to do to launch your silk flower business? I want to launch an a la carte flowers. What do you need to do and break that down into micro chunks? Like that strategy and stay on track to the strategy. is what is going to move your business forward. Having these big pie in the sky dreams is amazing, but like if you don't have a bite sized plan, notch those little tasks off it's not going to happen and it's going to sit in your to do pile and a huge to do pile can equally feel like shit.
So, you want your business to feel good. You need to make a strategy to support that. You need to get help if you have no idea what that even looks like. That is a little bit of tips on what is holding you back. I don't want 2025 to be the year that you are still being held back. If your business isn't doing what you've wanted, there is reason.
And I, I want bigger things for you. So go ahead, check out the floral hustle. com forward slash rockstar. These workshops are a game changer. We have one spot in the CEO mastermind right now. And like some of these girls have been with me almost a year because it is so good in there. You guys like The space, the support, like I am your flower fairy godmother in Voxer, which is a app that you can communicate.
You can ask me anything in there in the group and we're all learning from each other. We're all growing together and there are some really amazing women in there and Everybody needs more flower friends these days. So if you need a plan for 2025, I also do one off sessions and I'd love to meet with you and discuss like how can you make 2025 your best year yet.
