You Are the Brand: Stop Hiding & Start Getting Booked
Hello flower friends. Have you been wondering when you're scrolling on Instagram and you're seeing somebody like do this video of them making a bouquet, or they're standing in front of their flowers and they're just being like so confident, such a badass, and like you're just a little bit of like fratty feelings, wondering like, how are they showing up like that?
How are they. Just able to just be so brave. If people do not know you, they won't book you. There is so much to be said about building a brand of you, you are who they are hiring. If you are a small business, yes, there are florists that you are a retail shop that has a team. Yes, there's definitely that case, but that business still has a brand, still has a team.
Still has, you know, a really personality behind the connection that somebody needs to be able to make a purchase. So, if you have been hiding, if that is something that really feels comfy to just be hiding behind, only posting flowers, you're not posting your face, you're not, you know, no voice, no personality.
Clients can't connect with you. They don't even know who you are, so how can they trust somebody? They have no idea who you even are. People don't just hire for flowers, they hire you. And as someone who shows up a lot. In social media, in my business, in networking, in all the places I understand, imposter symptoms can be a real hindrance.
I, I've literally coached so many people, they're like, I am petrified of showing up on video. I am scared of what people are going to think. I am worried people are going to judge me. I went through the same thing when I. Started really showing up in my business and going like, who am I to show up? You know what?
I am a badass. I have been a florist for 30 years. I am an expert. I needed to change the narrative of what I was saying to myself in my head because frankly, none of those things were true. When I thought about like, who am I? Who am I? Like, I had to really just start to dig deep, and I'm guessing those same things live within you.
So if you are saying, I am not good enough, I need more experience. Who am I to teach, share, or show up in my business? The reality is no one is waiting for you to feel ready. People are already less experienced than you showing up in big ways and getting booked because they are a brand, they are the face of their business, and people are connecting with them if they can't connect with you.
If your business doesn't have a personality, like they feel disconnected, they might not even look at you twice. You could get passed by because your personality that I know you have, I mean, we are passionate, creative people. I absolutely, when I'm talking to somebody about wedding flowers, like I light up, I get excited when I'm talking to somebody about coaching and like making their business better and like what they love about their flower business, what their strong points are like.
I get fired up, like passion makes people want to spend money. If, if you're excelling the excitement of like these arrangements and all of these things and these concepts and the ideas and your love and just like it is just oozing from you, like that is something somebody wants to spend money on or you know, somebody is like, I don't even know this person.
They don't show up. They're barely showing up on their social media, so I frankly don't even know if they're in business anymore. I don't know who the owner is. You know, none of those things like that is going to literally be the kiss of death. So. Positioning yourself equals perception. Experts aren't always the best.
They're just the most visible. I have seen people who have these crazy big Instagrams and I look at their shit and I'm like, what a hot mess. Sometimes like I'm like, oh my God, there's dead flowers in it. But they have like 10,000 followers. It's just because they show up and they show up. In a million different ways, and they just keep showing up.
The florist who educates, shares their opinion, shows process, shows behind the scenes, shows themself their brand, their personality. They become an authority, and that authority can be magnetic. I am a, an authority in my space because I have been doing this for so long. I have so much experience, I have so much passion, I have so much knowledge.
Like that is something that, I mean, I have even went in to, uh, like go in and do like a silk flower installation and they ended up hiring me to coach their wedding venue on social media and like sales and all of these things. You never know when you are. Your expertise could apply to somebody that could even be at a bar when you're sitting down for happy hour.
That could be at a networking event, that could be at the grocery store. You never know when you might run into somebody. So just showing up in your life as you in your business with everything that you have in your heart, it's only going to make your business grow. So what is showing up? I know I keep saying, showing up.
What does that actually even mean? What does that look like? So to make it really practical, it's talking on stories. Do a 15 second video. Do a 32nd under a minute, has to be under a minute and share some behind the scenes. Give an opinion, give it a hot take. Show your face consistently. You don't need to be perfect.
You just need to be present. But you really need a identity shift. You don't become the go-to florist when you feel ready. You become the go-to florist when you start acting like one. I'll share with you guys like a really private moment when I first did my first big workshop and I, I mean obviously like I am confident I am all these things, but.
I sh I was nervous. I was like all these people, like some of them flew on airplanes to come and see me and do all these things, and here I am. But like, I literally went and looked in the mirror and I was like, I am a badass. I have so much experience, so much knowledge, so much everything to add value. And it can be the same thing for you doing a workshop in your community, showing up on wedding day with the most beautiful flowers because you poured your heart into it.
There are so many things that just this small shift and going, I'll start when I'm ready to, like I am so. I am so ready for this because I have poured my heart, my soul, into my business. I have done the work, I've done all the things, and it just starts with you getting really, really brave and really, really bold, and knowing that your success is inevitable.
Once you start to show up in your business, because I guarantee you are probably very lovable, I have met some Floris in my day that I'm like even photographers, I mean just like people in business and I just know if they just like led they're little freak flag fly that, Hey, you should know me. You should know about me.
I am talented. I am, you know, whatever it is, like not in a, a heady or like cocky, arrogant way, like just with utter like I am, I am going to do a great job. I will take, make sure that everything is as perfect as possible. Selling that confidence that they are going to not only get the most beautiful flowers, but you're just gonna provide this experience.
And I often meet with people and they already feel like they know me because I show up, I show up in my business, I show, I show up, period. And because I show up, I have people come up to me at networking events that are like other wedding vendors and they're like, you're Jenny from Green Goddess, you do all the videos and blah, blah, blah.
Yes. Yep. Or they've seen me because I show up. In at wpa, um, which I'm the programs director for. I show up in the Minnesota Floral Collective, um, that I founded. Like I show up in all of these ways and that is just building a brand and that's how I can have a multiple six figure business working part-time, you guys, because I show up and if this seems scary.
